The tightwad gazette

go google this book. It is great! I have found so many money saving tips here that I never ever would have tried if it wasn't recommended to me!

For starters, I now cut my fabric softener sheets into quarters and it does the job just fine!

I also dry my razor and replace lid after each use... a razor that used to last me 3 shaves now lasts over 10! Combine that with coupons and sales for razors and that cost is almost absolete!

Just remember, savings money on groceries, toiletries, and cleaning supplies leaves room for many more coach purses!!!!

Free Glade Force Flex Garbage Bags!

This is gold to me because this is the absolute only brand and type we use!

Click here for your free sample!

ps... thanks to my loyal readers who have been emailing me and posting comments... as you know I am in the middle of moving, back to school, and sports practices so I apologize for not having fancier posts....

once I get all of this under my belt, I will have a more and improved blog so keep reading!

Also, don't forget to check out the clearance section in your stores. I just started doing this and found sos sponges for 50 cents each and tampax tampons (40 count ) for 1.64! If I only had a coupon on top of that!!!!

My Stockpile

So in one month I have managed to feed our entire family and stockpile the following items, while still spending LESS then I normally spend in one month time period. Usually by the end of the month I have spent my budget and have nothing left over. This month I have stockpiled (if I can remember it all):

3 boxes of bandaids
5 boxes of colgate toothpaste
7 shampoos and conditioners
2 hair gels
1 volumizing spray
various makeup
9 womens deodorant
4 mens deodorants
3 clearsil pads
4 lysol toilet bowl cleaners
3 scrubbing bubbles,
4 all laundry detergent
3 spray and washes
28 rolls toilet paper
9 paper towels
2 packs napkins
2 toothbrushes
4 taco kits
2 16 count rice crispies treats
2 16 count pop tarts
6 boxes eggo waffles
lots of chicken, pork ribs, steak, and ground beef
4 taco kits
4 hamburger helpers
3 jars peanut butter
2 jars jelly
2 boxes cheeze its
4 boxes fruit snacks
lots of bottled water and gatorade
2 packs crystal light
15 boxes of mac and cheese
6 cans spaghettio's
2 lbs lunchmeat turkey
11 boxes various name brand cereals
6 lysol wipes
2 glass cleaners
4 glade air freshener sprays
2 glade plug ins
2 bottles pledge

* This is what I have left over for the month and does not include everything I bought as I have fed our family each day. I am sure I am forgetting something but that's the jist of it. I also have 13.XX in a walgreens rebate gift card and about 50.00 in rebates coming my way.

Now that fall is around the corner I am going to stock up on soups and such, but the taco meals and hamburger helper will be good for the late night sports practices.

Does anyone know how long you can freeze go gurts? I haven't stockpiled those because I wasn't sure. I also do not like to freeze bread because I don't like the taste of it when it thaws so I passed up some good deals on that.

Free Wii Remote Silicone Covers from Nintendo

Thanks to money saving mom for this tip!

Wii's now come with silcone covers for their remotes, but if you purchased your wii before this time, you can request up to 4 free covers from nintendo here.

NICE! So if your wii did not come with the jackets, as mine did not, order them for free!

Back to School Lunch Boxes

Since it is back to school time, I thought I would include a post on here about some things I put in my kids lunch boxes. I usually pack them the night before except for thermos items. Those I cook in the morning so they are fresh and hot.

(To heat up the thermos, I boil some water and pour it into the thermos and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then I dump out the water and fill the thermos with the hot food.)

Things I put into the thermos include my kids favorites:

meatballs with sauce
spaghettio's
mac and cheese

I also make the standard pb and j sandwhiches or turkey and cheese sandwhiches. To add some variety, I cut it with cookie cutters, or an "uncrustables" cutter.

I sometimes make wraps as well:

turkey and cheese
BLT
ham and cheese

Another variation to pb and j is I make them on waffles and cut them up.

For sides I usually put in fresh fruit:

strawberries
banana
apple
grapes

I also use yogurt, carrots and dip, celery and peanut butter, cheeze its, cheese cubes, pasta salad, salad with italian dressing.

Desserts include:

graham crackers, chocolate chips, and marshmallows
peanut butter cookies
oatmeal cookies,
fruit snacks
pop tart
cheerios, m&m's and marshmallows
jello
pudding

Drinks are usually juice boxes or they buy milk at school.

My Actual Walgreens Purchase Today

*** I had planned on buying 3 (2packs) of AA Energizer Batteries. With coupons and rebate it would have been 10.XX for 6 batteries. Duracell is on sale with Walgreens coupon for 2.99 for 4 AA batteries, limit 3, so I bought these instead. For about 9.00 I got 12 AA Duracell Batteries, which was a better deal.

I bought:

3 (4 packs) of AA duracell batteries @ 2.99 each (with walgreens coupon in insert)
3 (7 piece) penway eraser sets @ .39 each (with walgreens coupon in insert)
1 pack of walgreens (4pack) lightbulbls @ 1.99 each with 1.99 rebate credit = FREE!
2 scrubbing bubbles @ 2.99 each - 1.50 in coupons - 2.00 in rebate = 1.24 each
2 spray and washes @ 3.29 each - 1.00 in coupons - 2.00 in rebate = 1.80 each
1 pert shampoo @ 4.29 each - 2.00 coupon - 4.29 in rebate = FREE + overage!

***used my 5.00 off 20.00 purchase and total out of pocket spent at register was 18.98. Total rebates coming my way in a few days = 11.00 (it is 10 percent if you use a walgreens card not 20 like I posted earlier)...

Total OOP spent after rebates: about 8.00!!!!

I now have a total of 13.00 in rebate credit at walgreens. Let's see how much I can buy in the next few weeks using only this amount and nothing out of pocket!!!

Free Cascade Sample and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Bonus

This is a great one in my opinion. Both are products I use regularly! Click on the link here and scroll to the bottom of the page where it says "get sample." Walmart samples arrive so quickly I love it!

Kellogg's Rebate Results Update

Ok, the rebate form was in the 8/3 paper insert. If you still have your papers go through and look for it. ONE per HOUSEHOLD. You must spend 20 dollars on the Kellogg's items I have listed on another post and they must be all in ONE RECEIPT. You must mail in your upc's and your receipt with the rebate form. I used 2 stamps just to be safe. Here is what I got. I did go to Walmart although I really despise going there, but I knew eggo waffles were 15 cents cheaper a box and I was buying, well 6 boxes. Ok, here's the run down:

2 boxes rice crispies treats (16 count)
6 boxes eggo waffles
3 boxes fruit snacks
2 boxes pop tarts (16 count)
1 all you magazine (couldn't resist some more FREE stuff)

Used 1.00/2 coupons for rice crispies treats, and pop tarts

Total spent 27.xx
Rebate credit 10.00

Total OOP: 17.xx

Not too bad. I probably could have hunted around for coupons on the fruit snacks and somewhere there is one out there for the waffles but I'm happy with the sale.

$12.14 at Kroger Buys This:

3 packs of kraft mac and cheese
1 pack of oscar mayer hot dogs
1 bottle of sunsilk shampoo
1 bottle of sunsilk straightening spray
4 boxes of cereal
4 sos sponges

Total before coupons and kroger savings was 27.96.! I saved over 50%! YEAH!

Mail in Rebate for FREE Sharpies

thanks to hooray for freebies for this one!

Valid through August 23, 2008, buy a 5 pack of black Sharpie markers and mail in this rebate form to receive a refund up to $4.49. Limit one per household. I already stocked up on Sharpies at a Walgreen's sale a few weeks ago so I think I will pass these on to a teacher this year.

Kellogg's Fuel for School Rebate

This rebate came in an insert and so far I have no seen it online. Spend $20.00 and mail in for a $10.00 rebate. All products must be purchased in one transaction and the receipt must be dated between 8/05/08 and 9/30/08.

Qualifiying items include

Any kellogg's cereal (12oz or lg)
Any Keebler Product (8 oz or lg)
Any Sunshine product (8 oz or lg)
Any Eggo Product (8ct or lg)
Any Kellogg's Nutri-grain Cereal Bar (6ct or lg)
Any Kellogg's Special K Cereal Bar (6 ct or lg)
Any Kellogg's Pop Tarts (8ct or lg)
Any Kellogg's Rice Crispies treats (8ct or lg)
Any Kellogg's Fruit flavored Snacks (6 ct or lg)
Any Kellogg's Cereal Straws (5 oz or lg)
Any kellogg's Gran n go cereal pack (5 oz or lg)

Now the insert came with quite a few 1.00/2 coupons for the above items so this can be quite a good deal with sales, coupons and rebates. I plan on stocking up on cheez-its, poptarts, keebler cookies, and some egoo waffles.

I'll update later today how I make out at Kroger. If anyone knows where you can get the link online let me know. I do have 2 rebates, but it is one per household.

Bed Bath and Beyond Coupons Rock!!! They NEVER expire!

OK, so i was bummed because I got my coupon out to go get my steamer (and save 30 bucks) only to realize it was expired! So, I hunt online to find a new one and there are none, but I do come across a post that says Bed Bath and Beyond will accept expired coupons. Sounded too good to be true so I called and low and behold they do!!!! So, hang on to all that you get! If you don't get them, go to their website here and sign up to get them!

Great Experience with Restaurant.com and 50% COUPON CODE!

I've known about this site for a long time but never bothered to take the time to try it. A few weeks ago I got an email that they were having a sale. Usually, you can buy a 25.00 Gift Certificate for 10.00 but during the sale I was able to buy a 25.00 Gift Certificate for 3.00 plus I linked to restaurant.com thru mrrebates.com and I got .60 rebate so final cost was 2.40 for a 25.00 Gift Certificate. Total savings at restaurant= 22.60!!! Not too shabby!

I was a little worried that I would have trouble using the GC since I had never done it before but I called ahead and they said it is no problem and sure enough there were no problems at the restaurant. The limitations are different for each restaurant, but we used ours at FIRE AND VINE, which is a GREAT restaurant, and we had to buy 2 entrees, which we do, and it was not valid on a Saturday or Sunday, and 20 percent gratuity was automatically added before discount, but DUH, we tip that anyway.

It took about 2 minutes to get the certificate and print it out and the savings and ease of use were excellent, so I highly suggest using restaurant.com (link here). But, don't forget to link thru mrrebates.com here first for additional savings! (just type in restaurant.com in the search feature once you get there and you will find the link you need.)

I've seen coupon codes for up to 80% off, but right now the going one is 50%. So a normally 25.00 GC that costs 10.00, now costs 5.00 if you enter the code SMART at checkout!

Rowenta Clothing Steamers

After a recent email, I decided to invest in a clothing steamer. Ironing is one of my least favorite chores mostly because I have never learned to do it properly therefore the clothes remain wrinkled or even become more wrinkled when I am done. Therefore, I have decided to invest in a Rowenta steamer. I am not quite sure which one yet so any advice would be appreciated. I have narrowed it down to the Rowenta IS1430 originally 69.99 and I can get it for 41.00 by the time I am done with a 20 percent coupon, a 5.00 rebate from pricegrabber.com and a 10.00 GC from Bed Bath and Beyond, or the Rowenta IS8100 Commercial Steamer that is origianlly 149.99 that I can get for 105.00 with same rebate and GC offers. I am leaning toward the commercial one because it heats up in 90 seconds and doesn't leak water. The IS1430 supposedly takes a long time to heat up and occassionally leaks water.

A Word About Coupons

Ok, so honestly I have never really used coupons in my life. I would go through them once in a while, cut a couple out, go shopping, and 200 bucks later be done with it for a week! I dreaded grocery shopping because I knew I would spend a fortune on something I wish I didn't have to. A family of 5 with 2 dogs and 1 cat I didn't really figure there was any way around it. Plus I didn't really want to take the time to clip coupons. Sure I did a few coupon exchanges with some friends but never kept up with it. UNTIL....

this past month. Every Wednesday, Kroger and Harris Teeter, and Walgreens put out there weekly ads. I get up early and browse through the ads. Now that I have been at it a while I actually know what a good cheap price is for most items. I also have a binder with sheet protecetors in it where I clip out all my coupons each week, put them into a white envelope with the date and coupon source (smart source, red plum , p and g savers, etc.) I then even go so far as to make a spreadsheat listing the coupon, amount, experation. That way I can tell at a quick glance what I have and where. This took a long time to do but now that I update it every week it takes only about 15 minutes Sunday morning.

Ok, so while looking through the weekly ads, I combine what is on sale with a coupon, which is doubled at Kroger and Harris Teeter (tripled at times). I then walk away with super cheap groceries! The key is to wait for the sale and save your coupon for use with the sale. Rebates are also a great way to save. I buy 2 Sunday papers each week and get my MIL's left over coupons each Sunday. That pretty much gives me 3 coupons each and most stores take up to 3 like coupons and double 20 coupons per day. (I do sometimes have to make 2 trips to use all my coupons)...

I have gotten palmolive dish soap for 10 cents, lady speed stick for 25 cents, crest and colgate for 50 cents, free toothbrushes, Stridex pads for 50 cents, dandruff shampoo for free, chex mix for 30 cents, Glass plus for 40 cents, shave gel for 50 cents, lucky charms and cheerios for 1.00 per box, FREE kraft singles, bread, dressing, crystal light, wheat thins, and hot dogs, and crayola markers, butter, stain cleaner, and ketchup, 1.00 whipped cream, and much more.

I usually spend at least 100 bucks per kid on school supplies. This year I covered all supplies for 2 kids for a total of 36.00 buy watching for sales and using coupons and rebates. Walgreens even paid me 20 cents for the markers I bought by offering 10 percent more rebate with a gift card instead of check!

My biggest savings was the day I walked out of Kroger with 91.84 worth of groceries for 74 cents!!!!

In one month I was able to feed my family and completely stock my freezer, fridge and pantry, and more with less cost then I normally spent just to get through each week! This includes toiletries, and cleaning supplies. I have about 4 bottles of lysol toilet bowl cleaner that I paid about 1.60 for total. I also have about 50 dollars worth of rebates coming my way.

Other places I have found savings is by using mrrebates.com You can link to just about any store online through their site and each store offers you a percentage back on what you spend. I got a check for 13.77 a couple weeks ago and currently have about 25.00 pending rebates waiting for me. For those of you with pets, we usually buy advantage for all 3 at the vet and it is EXPENSIVE. On Saturday, I placed an order at 1800petmeds.com for a 4 month supply for each of the 3 pets. The total was 137.00 and I received the package today complete with a dog bone for the dogs and catnip for the cat and mrrebates.com is giving me 10 percent back so 13 bucks!! LOTS cheaper then the vet so I highly recommend this site. I am currently looking into 123inkjets through mrrebates.com for ink cartridges for the printer and will update how that goes.

I am still new to this and looking for other ways to save so if you know of any sites or have any ideas, please email me at centsiblegroceries@yahoo.com

FREE 411 Phone Directory??

Ok, this is one of my families weaknesses. We use 411 all the time and it really adds up. I found a free 411. It is 1-800-free-411. The catch is you do have to listen to a few seconds of advertisements and it is completely automated which is kind of a pain. However, it is FREE.

All You Magazine

This is a great magazine but on top of that there are TONS of great coupons in it. It costs $1.77 at Walmart, which is the only place you can buy it. This month there are 5 coupons alone for FREE items. You buy 3 Kraft, Nabisco, or Oscar Meyer items (excluding single serve items) and you get either Kraft Singles FREE, Wheat Thins FREE, Oscar Meyer hot dogs FREE, Kraft dressing FREE, and Crystal Light FREE. I used them when Harris Teeter had Mac and Cheese on sale for .44 a box and for $6.50 I got 15 boxes of Mac and Cheese, 1 pack hotdogs, 1 box wheat thins, 1 pack of cheese, 1 container of Crystal light, and 1 salad dressing!!! Other, but not all coupons included this month are 1.00 off Peter Pan Peanut Butter, which I combined at Farm Fresh where you bought PB, Jelly for 3.00 and got FREE bread. So for me, it cost 2.00 for PB, Jelly, and bread!!!

Go get Your copy today! Well worth it!
